The
Scene
This ornate temple of retailing features
an elegant interior with beautiful marble
floors and curved architectural ceilings.
Time-tested department store brand names
are displayed in a way that makes
everything seem appealing. Soft music and
chatty but unaggressive salespeople mix
with rustling shopping bags and register
drawers snapping open and shut to produce
a symphony of merchandising. On two
floors, served by multiple escalators, you
can find those special items twinkling in
perfect lighting and enjoy an elegant
setting without pretense.
The Goods
Pristine and graceful fragrance and makeup
counters obscure the entrance to the
Lancôme Day Spa. Beyond the beauty
products, the massive shoe department
stretches to the back of the store.
Similar styles by different brands are
displayed side by side. Displays of what
seems to be every type of shoe are
complemented by discreet sale racks spread
around the department. More top designer
men's names appear here than at other
department stores. The entire second floor
is mainly women's wear, for all stages of
life. Tucked behind the clothes are chic
housewares, customary gifts, the
ubiquitous wedding registry and Dillard's
Travel. |
